Eddowes’ practice harnesses the nature of materials such as silicone and wax to explore the pattern created by iterative actions such as slicing, extrusion and compression. The repetition of these inherently imperfect actions reveals an overall form. Eddowes’ work draws on fundamental principles of painting such as colour mixing, transition of boundaries and rhythm. The restriction of an organised, repetitive process reveals organic and geometric forms that provoke a sense of wonder.
The cross section is a central device in Eddowes' work. The technique is a way of breaking down a mass to reveal hidden images beneath the surface. The physical series of slices can be seen as in parallel to the process of animation which shows movement from a sequence of still images.
