My practice explores the pattern and form created by iterative actions such as slicing, extrusion and compression. Through painting, sculpture and animated film, the work deals with time and mass; While the two dimensional works are ostensibly flat, the translucency of the silicone and sculptural methods of production reveal a depth, so that they are more flat objects than paintings.

The cross section is a central device in my work. The technique is a way of breaking down a mass to reveal its hidden surfaces. The systematic slices can be seen as instances in time, in parallel to the animated work, where a sequence of still images reveal a process of transformation.

The work conveys a sense of wonder at the world and its phenomena. It sometimes recalls familiar imagery of the natural world such as land forms, waterways, the cosmos and biological structures. There is a parallel between the cumulative actions that create my work and the emergence of these natural forms over many years of continuous or repeated forces. A sense of play is often what drives the studio process, resulting in an experimental and visceral process that pushes materials to their limits.
